It has just announced that Ring will be having a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, November 10th, at 1 PM.

Ring Library Sleeps

It is September 18th, 2009, the last day Ring staff will be in the building after preparing for renovation. We are saddened by the closure, but excited about the upcoming renovated building.

Ring's Closure

Here are the most recent updates:

Ring is scheduled to close on Saturday, September 5th.

All ILL items and hots will be removed and transferred to HIL. This will take place late Saturday afternoon, September 5th, or Tuesday, September 8th.

Upon closing, all AV, uncataloged paper backs and Large Print items will be boxed and sent to Jungman.

Next week, September 8th - 11th, we will be working from 9-6, not 9:15-6:15.

Everyone will be off on Saturday, September 12th.

We will all report to our new locations on Monday, September 14th. However, the new reporting locations are still unknown. Please be prepared for your Saturday rotation to be altered as we transition into our new locations. Flexibility is the key!!

On Thursday, September 10th, we will be having a staff lunch. Ring has a Kroger gift card that has $22 remaining we will use for this purpose. If anyone would like to bring something in addition to this, please feel free. Everyone will be here that day, so this is an excellent opportunity to do this.

Ring's Closure

Ring is scheduled to close to the public on Saturday, September 5th. Here are the latest updates and instructions:

All items customers place on hold will continue to arrive at Ring through Friday, September 4th. After that, all items will be directed to HIL. Any items remaining on Ring's shelves will be taken to HIL on September 5th.

If any customers inquire about the closure, tell them that Sept 5th is the target date, but that it may change. Also, tell them that the target date for reopening is June 2010, but that may also change. There have been a couple of customers request more details. If they do, please direct them to me. If I am not available, please take their contact information and give to me. I will respond to them ASAP.

As soon as I know, I will inform everyone where they will be assigned to work during Ring's closure.

Also, we will being taking items down, packing them and sending them off for storage as needed.

As always, thanks for your hard work, patience and flexibility during this transition period. My goal is to make it as smooth as possible for everyone!!

Ring's Closure

If you look at the following link, you can see that Ring is slated for closure on August 1st, 2009. Please note: This does not mean that staff will be reassigned immediately after this date. If is highly possible that we will remain at Ring for a week to two weeks to pack the facility and to wrap up last minute issues. Also, be aware that the construction timeline may change.

I will keep all of you posted as time progresses as to when/how the closing will proceed and what any future job assignments will be.

2009 WrestleMania Reading Challenge!

Congratulations Jose Castro! Our regional winner, a 6th grader at Spring Woods Middle School in Spring Branch ISD, loves reading, art, and MySpace! Jose's winning bookmark entitled, "Reading Will Get You Somewhere" illustrated Teens picking up books and discovering they just can't put them down!

Way to go, Jose!  We are so proud of you!

Spring Branch History Program

Ring had an outstanding adult program this past Saturday, January 24th. LSS Kathy Carmichael gave an excellent 35 minute presentation of the history of the Spring Branch area. Included in her presentation were 32 power point slides highlighting important people and events that contributed to this community's rich history. Following this, a 15 minute video, created by local resident Nelda Reynolds, was shown highlighting Houston life during various time periods. To supplement the presentation, several displays were featured providing additional historic information. Fifty-five adults attended this event and had a fabulous time!!  Special thanks go to local Spring Branch residents Nelda Reynolds and Patsy Andrews for their significant contributions to the success of this program.
