1. When a Customer Complains About a Book
- If a customer complains that a book is mislabeled, be positive and thank the customer for being proactive.
- Offer the "Citizen's Request for Reconsideration of Library Materials" form. This form can be found: Intranet / Forms + Documents / Library Materials
- If a customer complains about the content of a book, you may explain/show the "Library Bill of Rights" (found: Intranet / Forms + Documents / Admin). This document explains that the library contains access to materials for people of all backgrounds, views, etc. A customer comments form (this is for comments about services, staff and facilities only) can also be offered (found: Intranet / Forms + Documents / Admin).
- We should strive for a clutter free environment. When co-workers from HPL or patrons come to RIN/HIL, they should see a well organized, bright, and happy place.
- Be aware that customers can see all the websites we visit. Be professional. All website history can be retrieved and made available to the public. If it is slow, find the balance of keeping busy and maintaining a presence at the desk for customer service.
- We'll be getting our progress reports done in the next couple of weeks.
- Remember to use your HEAR plan to line-up and to use as a guideline to focus your information. Chris or Alma can print your HEAR plan for you if you need a copy.
- Any change requires an email explanation. Let managers know if an adjustment is necessary. If we are leaving at 8 minutes after, let's try to clock in at 8 minutes after, too.
- Be where you are supposed to be. If an adjustment is needed to the schedule, let a manager know. Sometimes they not be aware of a situation and they are happy to accommodate you. Be especially punctual around lunch times and even a couple minutes early if possible.
- Be diligent about not taking your Saturday work day off. If you have to, try to switch with a co-worker so it's covered.
- Let your co-workers know if you are leaving the building (besides lunch). Emergencies happen, we'll need to account for everyone.
10. Weeding
- Discard books that have rips, water damage, mold, staining, yellowing of pages extending into the book (not just the outer part), etc.
- "When in doubt, throw it out"
- Remember to do so. We get staff dependent on our stats. A long involved helping session with a customer can be more than one tally!
- Help keep our staff fridge clean by throwing out old food and drinks you might have in the fridge and no longer want. Clean up spilled food (crumbs, drinks, etc) in the kitchen when they happen.
- It will be December 22nd @ Ring. Bring a dish. Write on the "whatcha-gonna-bring" sign up sheets.
